A Quote

I came across this quote yesterday and wanted to share it with you:

"It's dark because you are trying too hard. Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly. Yes, feel lightly even though you're feeling deeply. Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them. I was so preposterously serious in those days, such a humorless little prig. Lightly, lightly – it's the best advice ever given me... So throw away your baggage and go forward. There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet, trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair. That’s why you must walk so lightly." Aldous Huxley

In a few days, I turn 70, and as I reflect on my past, I realize how much of my energy was expended on taking things (including yours truly) that didn't need to be taken so seriously, too seriously. One thing I try to get across with anyone I am honored to work with is to turn down the seriousness thermostat in our lives. A light touch and a light mind give more space, time, and energy for the things that do need to be taken seriously, and it's a better and more joyful way to live.

Give it some serious thought (joke), and if you have any thoughts you would like to share, please post them in the feedback or send them to me at michael@michaelmaddaus.com.
